Our Leather

Every product page lists exactly what a bag is made of, including hardware and lining. Here is what those terms mean.

Top-grain leather

The outer layer of the hide, lightly sanded and finished for an even surface. Durable and easy to care for.

Calfskin

Leather from younger hides, with a finer grain and a softer hand.

Nappa

A soft, smooth leather, finished for suppleness. It drapes and relaxes with wear.

Pebbled and grained leather

Leather pressed or tumbled to raise a visible grain. It hides small scratches well.

Suede

The inner side of the hide, buffed to a soft nap. Good suede has a dense, even nap and resists marking.

Nubuck

The outer grain, buffed to a fine velvet finish. Softer than smooth leather and more durable than suede.

Oil-waxed leather

Leather treated with oils and waxes. Scuffs fade with handling and the surface develops a patina over time.

Canvas

Tightly woven cotton or cotton-linen, used on its own or paired with leather trim for a lighter bag.
