YEE SI (意思) is a New York / Shanghai studio working where bag, sculpture, and object meet. The brand was founded in 2017 and grew out of years of folding experiments rooted in origami.
Each piece begins as a study in geometry: a folded plane, a structural play, a transformation. The work is rigorous and minimal, but never inert. Bags fold flat, switch silhouettes, or reorganize between configurations — pieces that move with the person carrying them.
The brand's Chinese name, “意思”, translates to "meaning" or "intent." YEE SI is for someone who finds beauty in measure rather than display.
The Designer
YEE SI is the work of designer Yingxi. Trained in graphic design at the Maryland Institute College of Art, she brought the discipline of two-dimensional design — the line, the plane, the structural relationship — into three dimensions through years of folding experiments. The first FACET pieces, born in 2014, were origami studies that became wearable objects.
The Studio
YEE SI's design language begins with folding. Across the studio's three collections, every piece carries a structural idea: a fold that defines a functional edge, a series of triangular planes that condense flat and expand into form, an architecture that reorganizes between configurations.
Materials follow the structure. Washed vegetable-tanned full-grain cowhide is paired with cotton-linen canvas and eco-woven fabrics — surfaces chosen for how they hold a fold and age with use.
